Centurion 1K System Guide:
- Clean the substrate properly with a degreaser and cleaner with an
abrasive pads or brush. Then rinse any possible residue with water.
a. We personally like a mix of Naphtha and water or Naphtha and acetone. However simple green, krud cutter, or tsp may be used. - Sand the surface with 150-180 grit.
- Clean any dust with a clean rag and water.
- Apply the first coat of 1123 primer at 4-6 wet mils with a 308 or 310 if you're using airless, or a 1.5-2.2 tip with an HVLP/cup gun. If the surface is open grain wood, we recommend adding 3% Centurion reducer.
- Allow the primer to dry for 1 hour. You will see bleeding in this coat.
- After 1 hour lightly scuff the surface with a fine to very fine sponge by hand, or a 1/2" very fine, or ultra fine sponge as a low speed. Or 320 grit abrasives at a low speed. CIC does not recommend film paper for this product as it can gum the paper. If you wait longer than an hour be sure to scuff the surface before applying your second coat.
- Apply the second coat at 4-6 mils.
- Allow the primer to dry for at least 1 hour. If dry times are
exceeding 1 hour be sure to check substrate you are applying it to, temperature it is drying in, coating temperature, and that airflow is moving off gassing water from substrate. - Scuff second coat of primer with a fine to very fine sponge by hand, a 1/2" very fine or ultra fine sponge at a lowered speed, or a paperback 320 grit abrasive at a lowered speed.
- If attempting to achieve a full grain fill, proceed with another
coat of 1123 following the steps above, or use 1108, 1111, or 1107.
If not, you may proceed with topcoat.
