Centurion 1k acrylic topcoat is a durable, water-based, self cross-linking acrylic topcoat that exhibits excellent hardness and mar resistance.

This 1k paint is a versatile coating that can be used for sealer and finish applications and offers excellent chemical and humidity resistance and ease of sanding.

The 400 series is recommended for interior trim, doors, moldings, bathroom vanities, kitchen cabinets, and more. 

All colors tint with Centurion's recommended industrial colorants for the best possible performance. Custom colors are always accurately matched to a 0.5 Delta E or less. 

Paint manufacturer color swatches can vary. Ensure the color is accurate before proceeding with a full scale application.

400 series needs to be sprayed in an area that is above 60 degrees and at least 35% humidity. Low humidity will cause defects in the finish. 9001 retarder added at 2% may be required in the winter.

• Can be used with thickener - add 1 - 1.5 fl oz. per gallon and drill mix for 3-4 minutes. Wait 1-24 hours before using. Dark colors may require more thickener.

Tip Recommendation: 

For vertical application some users may prefer a 306 or 406 tip.

Airless Tip Recommendation: TriTech fine finish 308 or 408 or Graco FF 308 or 408 — 208 or 210 tips are not recommended and will cause you to over-apply. Scroll down for more airless recommendations.

Spray application methods: conventional, airless, air assisted airless, HVLP, HVLP turbine. 

Brush/Roll: add 1-2 fl oz. of thickener and 2.5% 9001 retarder. Use a soft bristle nylon/polyester blend brush and a thin nap mohair, synthetic mohair, or microfiber roller. Do not overwork. If the product is drying too fast, add slightly more retarder. 

HVLP Turbine: (minimum 5 stage turbine with tinted colors - 4 stage for clear). For HVLP application a 1.8 or 2.0 needle is recommended. 3-5%+ reduction with medium retarder with lower powered units may be necessary.

Airless: 308 or 408 spray tip. Use a 3/16” x 25’ hose. Smaller or larger hoses can cause issues. Hose whips are not recommended. Use a coarse or medium mesh filter in your pump and in your gun. 50-100 mesh in the gun and 20-50 mesh in the pump is ideal.

Surface preparation: 

The surface must be clean, dry, and free of grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints and any other contamination to ensure proper adhesion. Degrease thoroughly with Simple Green, Krud Kutter, or a heavy duty degreaser (as directed), and rinse with water before sanding. 

Remove any loose or peeling paint. Sand basecoat with 320-400 grit sandpaper. When used as a sealer, use 220-320 grit sandpaper in between coats. May be applied over acrylic, nitrocellulose, or UV basecoats. This product should not be used over freshly painted Advance, Emerald Urethane, or other trim paints. 

Recommended Primers: 

New wood: 1108 or 1111 (1K or 2K)

Refinish: 1111 with (2K with 5% catalyst) or 1123 (1K) or 1107 (2K with 10% catalyst) where extreme moisture resistance and adhesion is needed.

Clear: 2001 sanding sealer

Be sure to test for adhesion and compatibility before full scale application.

Application method: sprayed with conventional, airless, and air-assisted airless equipment.

Dry Time: At 77F and 50% humidity - Tack free in 20-25 minutes. You can sand the surface and recoat in 30-45 minutes.
